BP Oilpacalypse Links

I want to take some time to share some links regarding the biggest ever environmental disaster in our oceans.

BP Slick
A blog featuring local coverage of the spill, and the home of the original flyover video by environmentalist John L. Wathen.

Mother Jones reporter Mac McClelland (on twitter as @MacMcClelland) is on the ground in the area of the spill, watching cleanup operations, attending press conferences, and providing photos from on the ground. Mother Jones is also coordinating the release of pictures taken by ordinary citizens via the #spillpics hash tag. Also check #BP and #oilspill.

Unless oil-covered birds somehow cheers you up, Boston.com’s Big Picture will depress you.

BP has bought Google Adwords search terms like “oil spill” to get you to their image control page quicker.

There’s a rainbow sheen-covered sea of BP oil spill links out there. What sites do you use to get news about the oilpacalypse?

CIUDAD March and Rally

Citizens United in Discourse Against Discrimination, or CIUDAD, will have a march/rally this Saturday to protest the recent, awful Arizona discrimination/harassment law and to announce which politicians in our area are for and against the law.

If you want to participate in this march and rally, be at Aztlan Park Saturday, June 5th at 9:30am to get organized. The march will begin at 10:00am and end at the Lubbock County Courhouse. Here is an approximate map of the march route. I hope to see you there.

Unrelated: if you noticed a sulfurous stench in the Lubbock air today, it’s probably because Karl Rove was in town. Check out the culture-jammed audio version of his book to clear the air.
