Randy’s Fatcat Luncheon

Congressman Randy Neugebauer’s rich developer buddies of the West Texas Homebuilders Association are throwing him a $50-to-$375-a-seat luncheon fundraiser in Lubbock this Wednesday. The fundraiser benefits the Liberty Project PAC.

I’m not sure there’s enough room to park Randy’s yacht out by Lowery Field, so I suppose they’ll have the fundraiser indoors.

Randy is trying to use this Liberty Project PAC to fund GOP candidates in other districts, for example in New Mexico. From the fundraiser event description:

The Liberty Project PAC was founded by Congressman Randy Neugebauer in an effort to assist conservative pro-business candidates around the country run successful campaigns.

Translation: “I don’t think I’ll have to run a race, so I’m going to ask my rich friends for money to funnel to other bought-and-paid-for GOP candidates.”

His pride will be his downfall. Randy will be too busy defending his indefensible record here in Lubbock and in Abilene. From being a do-nothing rubber stamp for the Bush Administration to sponsoring the Birther Bill to yelling “baby killer!” on the House floor, he’s got a lot of explaining to do to his constituents.

Let’s throw a few bucks to Andy Wilson to hold Neugebauer accountable for his antics. We mere mortals can match the fundraising power of the fatcats if we work together!

Radioactive Waste Call to Action!

Urgent news from the Sustainable Energy & Economic Development (SEED) Coalition:

Please come to the public hearing to tell the Compact Commission you do not want Texas to become the nation’s radioactive waste dumping ground!

Austin Hearing - April 5, 2010, 1:00 PM at the Texas State Capitol Extension Auditorium, E1.004
Andrews Hearing - April 6, 2010, 6:00 PM at Andrews High School Little Theater, 1401 NW Avenue K.

At issue is a proposed rule allowing radioactive waste from all over the nation to be imported to West Texas. If you can’t make it to one of the above in-person hearings, please consider taking 30 seconds of your time to leave an online comment via the Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra Club.

There is a strong chance that this waste will end up contaminating the Ogallala Aquifer, which is the main source of water for West Texas, and a major source of water for seven states. 3 Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) staffers have resigned in protest over the commission’s actions that disregard scientific warnings about poisoning our water supply.

This is a big deal, and Waste Control Specialists (the company standing to profit from this mess) is trying to rush it through. If you can’t make the drive to Andrews, please leave comments online and urge your friends to do the same.
