Good Sunday Morning Lefty,

I'm holding my breath for you list.

But I want you to consider this - is it okay to do justify a wrong with a long record of public service ????

A certain long time Repulbican Senator with a long record of accomplishments (and frequent flyer and user of airport restrooms) comes to mind.

Fox:

Yeah, I was getting stuff together for a garage sale this weekend. Glad that's all over with. :)

The other thing I'm working on -- largely thanks to you -- is trying to put together a history of Linda DeLeon's accomplishments for the two decades she's held public office. You state very well some of the concerns that are out there about Linda right now, and I want to see how they stack up against her record. It's becoming a pretty big project for me.

I am not sure if the LP&L bailout of Citibus is a done deal. It would be great if it is -- then the "don't you dare tax me" crowd can be happy (or as close as they ever get to being happy about government) for another year without Lubbock losing a vital service like reasonably-priced public buses.

Hi Lefty

Haven't heard from you - are you OK ??? Here is more on why politicians disappoint.

Looks like Linda Deleon made a total fool of herself again. Two weeks ago, the City Council decided to go with the truth in taxation rate.

Then in total disregar to her commitment; Deleon reverses herself and calls for a tax rate increase - Duh !!!!! Actually this is beyond Duh !!!! It is almost as stupid as Klein's definition of a tax cut.

Here's why: She did this just as LPL was gonna issue public monies for use to fund public transportation. Deleon's timing is as good as her political savvy - and she gets and F- for political savvy.

I wouldn't call her foolish, incompetent, arrogant, or stupid unless she proved herself worthy - and she did.

Hey this is pretty good - think I'll post this on LOL.

Lefty

There is no evidence whatsoever to support your conspiracy theory. If there is: give us names, dates, places, people present, who said what.

But, most importantly - tells us who knew what and when did they know it. Or, who did what and when did they do it.

If you cannot answer these questions - Would you reconsider this: Stop !!! Stop now !!! Stop it today !!! Stop defending politicians - they will disappoint you over and over and over again. And then they'll do it again.

watchman and fox:

First, let me say that I will check into the election code re: elected officials and results. Thanks for sticking to your point on that, and we deserve to discover the truth about it.

Now for scattered points:

It's true: I am defending Linda DeLeon. But, I do so for good reason. She has done a lot for this community, and it's only recently, well into Mayor Miller's tenure, that she's come under intense fire. I smell a rat. Some group is upset that their faction is not in power anymore at City Hall, and they're on the attack.

I can assure you that those trying to remove Linda from office are NOT the same folks who worked hard to put here there in the first place. I know the big-time Linda supporters and organizers, and trust me -- they are not to be found on the petition.

I think it's an absolute shame what happened to Chris Gonzales and his business. We don't need a visitor center, either -- it's a stupid idea. However, South Beach will open again (Chris owns another building in the Depot), and the visitor center was a unanimous decision of the Council. (Though I suspect that Todd Klein would have voted against it were he on the Council at the time.) To single out Linda for South Beach is suspicious to me. I think some group behind the scenes is working to transform this anger about the closing of South Beach into anger about DeLeon in general.

I think Linda and Floyd have the hardest job on the whole City Council. They have but two votes to try to get things done for Northeast and East Lubbock, which are historically underdeveloped areas. I think they're doing an OK job of it.

Lubbock Left it is obvious that you are in denial - as is Linda DeLeon. First who in the wide world of sports would not be disgruntled to have your business shut down in order to build some flowery, fancy, government building; all at taxpayer cost and paying more than premium bucks? I'm angry too and I don't even go to clubs. Government take overs are lame to Linda DeLeon. You and her do not see anything wrong with that. Hey maybe the gov't will take your house next.Linda agreed with the 580 commentator's assertion that Mr. Gonzales spoke in racisct analogies; I only heard him use the word "Hispanic" several times. Linda is the one who is an officer in the Hispanic Agenda. And you are wrong about politicians receiving information early. The ballots from elections must first be certified before being released to anyone - check out the State Election Code. Those that are working their hardest to remove Linda are the people that put her in office - most of which have voted Democratic. Keeping promises is hard for Linda - promises kept are important to District One. On her last dog and pony show she praised the Mayor you ridicule. Bottom line is that the whole City Council is a cess pool of slithering two headed creatures.

I'll say again -- I'm not defending how Linda speaks in public. She needs to practice.

But, the recall petition <em>was</em> led by the family of the South Beach owner, and they were obviously disgruntled. Also, she didn't call the petition or the petitioners "lame" -- it was the <em>reason</em> for circulating the recall petition that she called "lame." The fact that the petition has failed twice suggests she might be right about that.

Do you have a source on the "racists" comment? That's a more serious remark.

As far as getting the results of the petition before the general public goes, that's not unusual. Elected officials get results of stuff before the public all the time. An independent count (as with the first petition) would determine if there was any "tampering." I strongly doubt that the petition was tampered with. Both the petition and the results of the count are public record -- you can do the research yourself, as I am doing.

I think what's going on here is that the loudest conservative Republicans in town are trying their hardest to get Linda out of office, and they're seizing on anything and everything that sounds even remotely bad. Where were they with their easy outrage back when Mayor McCheese was bulldozing an entire neighborhood? Oh yeah, they were headquartered in his corporate offices.

I agree with CrazyLikeAFox. Any elected official who goes on the airways has a public image to uphold. She talks like a "callejera", not becoming of a public official. The folowing are words that she uses in reference to those who oppose her," lame" "those bar owners" "that band of disgruntled people" "racists" and the list goes on. Her refusal to admit that she was caught on tape and on tv saying that she got the results before they were announced to the public is evidence that she has lost her ability to effectiveley serve the people who live in District 1. This is her response to reporters on Tuesday after the results were announced. "When did you receive the petition?""Yesterday, I came and picked it up at City Hall because I knew that the results were going to be announced in the next day or so and depending on the number, I needed to be aware of the signatures and maybe if I had any questions that I needed to ask. Depending on the results." It is very apparent what her motive for picking it up early were, and who gave it to her. I believe this is clearly a case of tampering with a government record and election fraud.

I'll be honest -- my number one complaint about Linda is her public speaking. It could use some improvement.

I believe she has a good heart, though, and tends to come down on the side of the people for policy decisions. I say this based on both interacting with her personally and watching her record of public service.
