Mikal Watts Breakfast
The first statewide Democratic Primary candidate for the ‘08 cycle to visit Lubbock is Mikal Watts, potential candidate for U.S. Senate against our current bum-to-be-thrown-out John Cornyn. He spoke this morning at a breakfast for local Democratic activists and fielded questions from the audience.
My question for Mikal was why should we support him over the other big-name Senate candidate in the Democratic Primary: Rick Noriega. Mikal’s response was in three parts:
- He (Mikal) has already put forward incredible effort through a constant travel and fundraising schedule, and will continue to do so.
- He can respond fast and well to the Karl Rove attack machine that will be coming with Cornyn’s campaign.
- He will compete and win in ALL areas of Texas, not just the historically Democratic areas.
I liked his answer, and I told him so. The choice between Watts and Noriega is still going to be a difficult one for me, mostly because David Van Os, my favorite Texas Politician, endorsed Noriega. But, I feel like I could stand proudly with Mikal Watts if he is our candidate.

This is a great new site! This is really what I need to keep up to date on what is going on locally. Great posts thus far. I am trying to focus more of my energies locally instead of on a nationwide scope.

So much for needing a majority vote to be duly elected. Those who are elected to power, manipulate the rules to stay in power. Who was the funded spoiler or spoilers?

We need to fix that little mistake with a constitutional amendment that does not filter through Craddick or Junior John or James Richard.
We need a US Senator who will balance out the hegemonic policymaking bodies.
Definitely these three carpetbaggers represent a minority controlling the majority.
We need to create a bureau of standards for terminology.
“Poverty Level”
For instance how many different standards are used for this one term?
Here is where they work the numbers. You know, measure according to this agency or that agency. Once again Hegemony and corrupted power to manipulate the rules or even change them inning to inning, hour to hour client to client.
The Coiffed,The Roved and Junior John smile for the camera, Extreme Right Wing Follow the yellow brick Rove Elitist do you really believe your elected positions are safe, above being voted out.
For those about to rock, ……………..
we salute you, ………………
yes we do!

Watts asserted after the vote that Junior John’s position was connected to contributions the senator received from insurance and prescription drug companies. He said Junior John should give up his taxpayer-funded health care benefits until all Texans have access to high-quality, low-cost health care
